Garnett City Commissioner passes Thursday morning

Garnett City Commissioner Cody Gettler, 25, passed away Thursday morning at his home from complications of a prolonged illness.

Gettler was elected to the Garnett City Commission in 2020 after having served a number of volunteer posts in local civic and municipal service. He graduated in 2014 from Anderson County Junior Senior High School and helped create the city’s Youth In Government program, in which a high school student is posted with city commissioners as a part of regular city commission meetings as a liaison between city government and local high school kids.

Gettler graduated from the University of Kansas in 2019 with a degree in Business Management and Entrepreneurship. He served on the Anderson County Development Agency and was a member of the Garnett Volunteer Fire Department when he was in high school until it was determined he didn’t meet the department’s age requirement . He was employed by Baker Group, a mergers and acquisition company with a satellite office in Garnett.
