Neosho County attorney
Linus Thuston planned to
retain his existing post but
also sought the position of
Anderson County attorney in
2020, when Elizabeth Oliver
oin a four-way Republican primary with no Democrat contention in the general election.
Neosho County Sheriff
Greg Taylor told state media
he investigated numerous
cases involving alleged felonies, including allegations
that some 50 women provided
Thurston nude photos in lieu
of payment for legal services
he provided them in his private practice some of which
he cultivated as confidential
informants. Thuston admitted
to some of those allegations.
Taylor said he provided that
case to KBI investigators. It
was not immediately clear
whether additional charges
would follow the two misdemeanors filed last week.
The misdemeanors involved
charges Thuston falsified the
purchase price of a car to avoid
sales tax on the purchase, and
used a county credit card to
pay one of the women who sent
him nude photos.
Thuston has long been
a lightning rod in Southeast
Kansas since he was elected
in 2012 for questionable plea
deals, including comparatively
light deals for violent crimes
like rape.
Any
charges
against
Thuston stemming from investigations in Neosho County
would have to be filed by the
state attorney generals office,
since Thuston is the primary prosecutor for the state in
the county in which he serves.
He did not seek re-election to
another term in the 2024 primary.

Respiratory illnesses If you seek the Lord
in the area on the rise he will respond
As respiratory illnesses
such as colds, flu, COVID-19,
and other viral infections are
on the rise in our region, it
is crucial for our community
to take preventive measures
to protect both individual and
public health. The SEK MultiCounty Health Department is
urging everyone to be vigilant
in practicing habits that can
reduce the risk of infection and
help control the spread of these
viruses.
Here are some key steps
everyone can take
Practice
Good
Hand
Hygiene: Regularly wash your
hands with soap and water
for at least 20 seconds. Hand
hygiene is one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread
of viruses.
Wear a Mask: Masks are particularly important in crowded
or enclosed spaces where social
distancing may be difficult.
They help reduce the transmission of respiratory droplets.
Cover Coughs and Sneezes:
Always use a tissue or your
elbow to cover your mouth and
nose when you cough or sneeze.
This simple action helps prevent the spread of germs to
others.
Stay Home if You Are Sick:
If you are experiencing symptoms of a respiratory illness,
please stay home to avoid
spreading the virus to others.
Rest and recovery are essential
for your health and the health
of our community.
Get Vaccinated: Staying up
to date with your flu shot and
COVID-19 vaccine (when available) is one of the most effective ways to protect yourself
and others from serious illness.
You may also want to consider
getting the RSV vaccine if you
are pregnant or are 60 years or
older.
We encourage everyone to
follow these guidelines and
stay informed about the latest
public health recommendations. Together, we can make a
significant impact in reducing
the spread of respiratory viruses in our community.

OBITUARIES
In Psalm 34 David says,
I sought the LORD, and he
answered me; he delivered me
from all my fears. The basis
for this Psalm is that David
is fleeing from king Saul and
his army and he flees to a
Philistine king by the name of
Abimelech. Saul has hunted
David for years and finally in
desperation David flees to an
enemy. Many times our lives
can become just as complicated as Davids had. Each of
us has felt like we were out
of places to go in search of a
solution to our problem. No
matter where we end up if we
seek the Lord he can be found.
David spent 17 years fleeing
from Saul before he became
king. The text makes this situation sound simple. David
says he sought the LORD and
the LORD delivered him from
his fears. How did the LORD
deliver David from an enemy
as well as king Saul? In Psalm
34 we read, The angel of the
LORD encamps around those
who fear him, and he delivers
them. Does the angel of the
Lord encamp around us, is he
present with us continually? I
dont know. But I can tell you
based on what I have seen and
felt there have been times in
my life when I have felt a presence.
As believers we have the
presence of the Holy Spirit
WEEKLY DEVOTIONAL
BY DAVID BILDERBACK
within us. The Holy Spirit, if
and when we allow him, will
lead us through the narrow
gate and down the straight
path to ultimately meet God
in eternity. The angel of the
LORD I believe is our protector. Satan complained to God
that he (God) had built a hedge
around Job and Satan could
not touch him. I dont believe
God will always protect us
from every bump or bruise in
our life but I do believe he has
angelic beings who are very
much a part of our lives.
David said I sought the
LORD. In Daniel 10 we read
that Daniel prayed to the LORD
and an angelic being comes to
see him. The angel says, since
you have have sought the LORD
(prayed) your words have been
heard and I came in response
to them. Some things God does
not give us enough detail to
completely understand but one
thing is clear if you seek the
LORD he will respond.

No one believes in it. It just doesnt work. And
while immigration is critical to our countrys

Both candidates for president promise to make

To the people who are feeding stray dogs in
Kincaid, you may believe youre a great and
kind person for feeding a stray dog, but all you
have done is cause someone elses dog to be
attacked two nights in a row. If you see yourself
thinking of yourself as a kind person caring for
animals, feeding a stray dog is not kind. Why
dont you catch the stray dog and give it a good
home if youre such a kind person instead of
causing someone elses pet who has a home to be
attacked by these stray dogs? Kincaid has codes
about not letting dogs defecate in other peoples
yards. These dogs run all over Kincaid urinating
and defecating in peoples yards and you people
feeding them are responsible for people having
to put up with these stray dogs.

Media coddling of Kamala hits epic proportions
If you listen to the real-time accounts of those
closest to Secretariats stunning win at Belmont,
you hear everybody saying he was going way too
fast early on and couldnt possibly maintain his
speed throughout the whole race. And yet, somehow, he managed. Watching the media trip all
over themselves to boost Vice President Kamala
Harriss presidential candidacy without asking
any critical questions of her, I keep thinking the
same thing: The media cant possibly maintain
this pace for the rest of the election, right?
On the other hand, what if they are able to?
If we take the broader view of what has
unfolded in this election, we are left with one
stunning example of media malpractice after
another. At the start of this year, they spent
months trying to cover up President Bidens
declining mental capacity and attempted to
debunk any efforts by conservative media to
point out the obvious. Then, when the debate
happened and they could no longer cover it up,
they worked 24/7 with Democratic operatives
to hound him out of the race, even seizing on
some of the same examples of mental decline
that just weeks earlier they had dismissed as
cheap fakes. They then pointed to their focus
on Bidens mental decline as evidence that they
were unbiased, despite the fact that they were
merely joining their Democratic friends in lobbying for a stronger ticket. A further indication
that they should not be given the benefit of the
doubt is that once they got their way and Biden
dropped out, they stopped seriously covering his

cognitive health. Somehow, the very real problem that our president is suffering severe mental decline during a global crisis doesnt matter
to them, because the political conundrum has
been solved. The subject that dominated news
coverage for weeks suddenly isnt a story anymore.
Meanwhile, since Harris was tapped as the
obvious replacement for Biden, weve seen
unadulterated fawning over her by the media.
Theres the first wave of adoring coverage that
permeates every corner of the media. (The
New York Times even quoted an expert who
declared, I dont think there has been anybody
who understands the power of cooking quite
like Kamala.) Then there is the secondary coverage, which cites the initial laudatory coverage
as evidence that Harriss rollout has been so
brilliant and smooth.
In the meantime, we are quietly told that
Harris has reversed herself on a whole slate
of positions she took during her first run for
president, when she supported the Green New
Deal; called for kicking 180 million people off of
private insurance; vowed to ban fracking and
offshore drilling; and promised to confiscate
AR-15s. I say we are told this, because Harris has
not stated any of this publicly, or been asked to
explain any of these dramatic reversals. Instead,
we are just told that this is now the case because
campaign officials said so.
Last week I was telling people Harris wont be
able to get away with this, because if there is one
thing that the media care about more than even
their ideological commitments, it is access. And
they tend to turn sour on candidates who dont
provide access. And yet the media is so pathetic,
so sniveling, so eager to prop up Harris, that
they dont care. Instead, they continue to sit
back like fools to report on her interactions with
Girl Scouts rather than demanding she answer
questions. Shes been a candidate for weeks and
has not held a single press conference or done a
single interview. I was a conservative journalist
during the Obama era, and I have to say, even he
had periods of negative coverage. I cannot recall
anything like what we are now witnessing.
Politicos Playbook has a story out today,
titled Why Harris Isnt Taking Questions, that
SEE KLEIN ON PAGE 7
If she wasnt running for POTUS, wed love a Kamala blackout
The past month has likely been the most
eventful in American political history. Yet the
two top officials of the most powerful nation in
the world wont answer any genuine questions.
Three weeks have passed since Joe Biden was
pushed out of the 2024 presidential race over
deteriorating physical and mental abilities, and
he has yet to publicly clarify with any specificity
why he took this unprecedented step or why,
if hes incapable of campaigning for the presidency, hes fit to serve out his term in the White
House.
Then again, not one journalist in the corporate or legacy media has explained how Bidens
obvious senility could turn from a democracy-corroding MAGA misinformation operation
into an accepted reality in a single day.
If they were fooled for three years, how can
we trust them? If they werent fooled, and they
didnt tell us, how can we trust them?
Well, we cant. Because theyre back at it.
The Democrats new presidential candidate,
whos never won a single primary vote, might
have been crowned but hasnt given a real
interview or even an extemporaneous political
statement since Democrat bigwigs pushed Biden
aside. In a functioning liberal republic, this
would be pretty big news.
The last time the vice president of the United
States had a press conference was December
2023. The last time sat down with any media
was June 24, when she was interviewed by the
sycophants on MSNBCs Morning Joe. Before
that was the Momala Harris interview with
Drew Barrymore, which might be the most
cringe-worthy display of fawning in recorded
history.
What is the incentive for her [to take more

questions]? a person close to Harris campaign
told Politico recently. Shes getting out exactly
the message she wants to get out.
Indeed, its quite the paradox. The media continue to baby Kamala and get her message out to
the public, so Kamala doesnt feel the least bit of
urgency in clarifying her record.
If they were so inclined, the naval-gazing
media could probably get Kamala out of her
shell by doing some honest, deep dives into her
history and positions. If her lack of transparency were a daily top-of-the-fold story she would be
compelled to speak.
Say what you will about Donald Trump, but
hes done scores of interviews and pressers over
the past few months, many of them with antagonistic venues including taking questions at
the National Association of Black Journalists
convention just weeks after surviving an assassination attempt.
Kamala hasnt spoken to a hostile outlet in
years. She wont even take questions from her
fans.
Trumps running mate, J.D. Vance, is compelled to answer questions about a throwaway
comment he made on a podcast before he was
even in the Senate. Kamala just sends her minions to walk back major policy positions that
would fundamentally affect every American.
She staked out these radical positions only a
few years earlier while running for the same
office. Kamala isnt triangulating her views for
a general election, she is effectively negating an
entire political history through press releases.
Kamala, for instance, says she no longer
supports banning all air travel, meat, and combustible engines. Thats nice. Kamala says she
no longer believes in decriminalizing illegal
border crossings. Good. The media treat her
new claims as indisputable. No questions asked.
No explanations given.
Is Kamala still going to try to ban semiauto
rifles through an executive order? Does she
believe all Americans should end up in the
same place no matter how hard they work?
Does she support defunding the police? We have
no clue.
Most of the media hackery is driven by partisanship. Some of it is also driven by access.
There are practical concerns for journalists.
Any reporters who truly challenge Kamala are
sure to find themselves on the outs. This is why
we need a press, not just an outlet, to take their
professional responsibility seriously. Because
right now, they dont.
Instead, the same people who gaslit the nation,
concealing the brittle state of the president for
years not just an abdication of their profesSEE HARSANYI ON PAGE 5

pretty good but what I did notice was the trash
on the road and some of the campsites. I know
the citys hard up for manpower in the summer. Maybe these kids looking for community
service hours can get organized and do a clean
up of the reservoir or one of the town clubs or
something. I dont know why people would run
off and leave their clothes at these campsites
or on the road but I saw a lot of clothes just left
there. Thank you.
It is hard for me to believe there are people who
hate Trump so much theyre honestly willing
to vote for someone that they know in their
heart of hearts is dumb as an oak post and is
an example of everything that has screwed this
country up. This wing of the Democrat Party
has almost ruined this country and if we have
to have another four years that could be even
worse it will ruin us for sure. If you dont want
to like Trump dont like him, but you know in
your heart of hearts hell be best for the country.
To the person or persons who put the puppy dog

Last week it got very cold
almost -9. I was very excited
because we could go skating. My
friends dad called and said that
they would have a skating party
on their pond every night that
week. I was very glad and that
night our family went. But first
they had to clear the snow off of
the pond.
Then the next night we went
again but that time we went
after dark with bright LED
lights that lit up the whole
pond. We used 2x4s to make
a hockey rink where the
older boys and men played.
Before they played, us children played.
Beside the big rink there
was plenty of space for anyone else who wanted to skate.
Some of the moms and dads
and my teacher skated too.
Almost all the school children were there one night.
We built a fire in a little bar-
rel on the ice so the little children could warm up when they
were cold.
We had some hot cocoa and
popcorn and cookies to snack on.
This was my little sisters first
time to go skating. Some people
took sleds along to give the little
children sled rids on the ice. We
played tag on the ice with our
skates. We went skating 4 times,
it was very fun.
I hope that it gets cold again
so we can have another skating
party.

once again is a meta-analysis
of how amazing her campaign
is and how theres no sense in
messing with a winning streak.
It notes that she has been informally chatting with reporters

which, Dave Weigel surmises,
is why we havent been hearing
more complaints about access.
This makes campaign reporters
look even worse. Essentially, it
means that access is all about
their own insecurities rather

Exactly. If you can get away

in January.
Wilson is a 1973 graduate
of Garnett High School and
retired from his private law
practice in Wichita in 2012, but
took the local judgeship after
he moved back to Garnett and
the vacancy arose.
I am going to run it by the
disciplinary board, Wilson
said in response to questions
from the Review after last
weeks primary. They will
hopefully give me an advisory
opinion. I have no idea whether
it violates our canons of professional responsibility.
Even if it simply gives off
the feeling that there appears
to, at the very least, give the
appearance of impropriety, I
will resign, Wilson said
Wilson said hes enjoyed the
municipal court job.
It is fun and I certainly
believe I am serving the folks
of Garnett. So, its worth the
effort to get an advisory opinion.
Serving multiple public
posts was among the issues
charged against unsuccessful county sheriff candidate
Mark Locke in that campaign. Locke is an elected

and McClains supporters criticized Locke for his gravitation toward multiple county
and city government positions.
Locke thanked his supporters
Wednesday morning.
Thank you for those that
supported me. Wishing nothing but the best for the citizens
of Anderson County, he said.
McClain gave a thank you
to his supporters saying he
would be the publics voice in
the department, and pledged to
turn the ACSO into a model
agency worthy of emulating
by other county law agencies
My vision for the Anderson
County Sheriffs Office is to
have a model agency and when
othes agencies see what we
are doing, they will want the
same for theirs, McClain said.
As we push forward toward
the general election lets all
remember that we have a voice
and we use our voice through
those that we elect.
Former ACSO Deputy
Robb Smith has announced
as a write-in candidate in the
November election.

Know that anxiety about
school starting can affect
you in different ways.
Because you are feeling
nervous, it may result in
you being irritable and
quick to snap at others.
You may even feel physical symptomsheadache,
stomach ache, fatigue,
shortness of breath, dizziness, and racing heartbeat.
Some people withdraw or
avoid others, and some
have a difficult time concentrating.
When these feelings
start to overwhelm you,
take a deep breath and
relax. Positive self-talk
and reality statements can
help you put things into
perspective. You arent the
only one with self-doubts.
Others are likely nervous
and unsure as well. At
some point once things
settle down and become
routineyou may wonder
why you were so nervous!
Remember that everyone experiences change
throughout their life.
Change isnt always a bad
thingafter all it keeps
things interesting and can
certainly make your life
exciting!
