Highest gas prices ever
Not since 9/11 have local gas
prices broken $4 gallon, but
plenty of gas to go around
BY DANE HICKS
THE ANDERSON COUNTY REVIEW
GARNETT With the exception of a few
hours on September 11, 2001, the price of
gasoline hit the highest level in Anderson
County last week ever in the history of
refined petroleum products as drivers
prepare for 2022 Memorial Day weekend
travel.
Its distressing news for a large chunk
of the local work force which commutes
to and from work each day.
Local gas prices hit $4.09 by Thursday
at some stations in Garnett, eclipsed historically only by the frantic few hours following the terrorist attacks on the United
States the afternoon of 9/11 when prices
hit $5 at some stations locally. The last
time prices neared this level was during
the recession of 2008.
U.S. Census Bureau data from the
2020 census shows some 45.5 percent
of Anderson Countys estimated over
16-aged workforce of 3,293 some 1,500
workers leave the county each day for
work, with a median commute time of 26
minutes. The data showed 21 percent of
county commuters travel 45 minutes or
more one way.
By far most of those commuters 74
percent according to the census data
make their work trip alone, meaning
they bear the full brunt of their fuel
costs themselves without splitting costs
with a carpool.
Spiking prices are being felt across
the local as well as national economy,

NEW YORK CITY Its been a
rough stretch for Americans at
the pump, with 28 U.S. states seeing record-high gas prices over the
past couple of weeks alone, and,
unfortunately, it looks like things
are about to get worse.
According to a research note
from JPMorgan, analysts estimate
that the national average gas price
will likely reach $6 by the end of
the summer. With expectations
of strong driving demand…U.S.
retail price could surge another
37% by August, the report states,
per CNN.
The average national gas price
rose by two pennies on Tuesday,
per AAA, bringing the new record
high to $4.52 per gallon. Of course,
some areas of the country have
seen much higher increases than

Locals protest Garnett library

THE ANDERSON COUNTY REVIEW
GARNETT A local conservative media group will meet with
Garnett Public Library officials
in hopes of having a copy of a
transgender memoir removed
from library sheves over their
concerns it depicts child pornography.
Library director Andrea Sobba
said last week she was planning
a meeting with Wes Keller and
Franklin Urqhart, who operate
the local conservative organization Molon Labe Truth, after they
filed a formal written challenge
to Gender Queer, a graphically
illustrated comic book-style work
by Maia Kobabe detailing
her experience with her
own gender issues as
child, adolescent and
adult.
The Anderson County
Review inspected a
copy of Gender Queer,
noting it was heavy
with sexual content
and some illustrations were deemed
too graphic to be
published with this
article. According
to an article in The
New York Times,
the title was the most
often banned book from schools
and libraries in 2021 after parent
and community uproar across
the country.
Keller and Urqhart, who both
also work for the City of Garnett,
maintain illustrations in
the book depicting Kobabes

We are fervently
requesting
that the library
remove this pornographic book

As summer approaches, be Job a man of vision!
aware of tick-borne illnesses
With this warmer weather
weve been having, many of
us have been outdoors quite
a bit lately. In turn, this puts
us at risk of contracting vector-borne (insect) and zoonotic-borne (animal) diseases.
Recently the SEK MultiCounty Health Department has
seen and uptick (no pun intended) in tick-borne illnesses. The
American Dog Tick, Lonestar
Tick and Deer Tick are the most
encountered ticks in Kansas.
Ticks can transmit serious/
potentially fatal diseases. Lyme
Disease, Rocky Mountain
Spotted Fever and the Bourbon
Virus are common to our area.
The Bourbon Virus was identified in Bourbon County, KS in
2014, where it got its namesake.
Remember DDAC for
tick-bite prevention:
Dress: Wear long sleeves and
long pants if out in tall grass
or wooded areas. Tuck shirt
into pants, and pants into long
socks. Wear over-the-ankle
shoes. Clothing should be light
colored to make ticks more visible.
DEET-When outdoors, use
insect repellant containing
20-30% DEET on exposed skin
and clothing. Reapply per label
instructions.
Avoid-Regular
mowing
will decrease tick encounters.
Avoid wooded, brushy areas
with tall grass and leaf litter.
Check-Check yourself for
ticks every couple of hours
while outdoors for an extended time. Check in and around
hair, backs of ears, in belly button, under arms, between legs
and backs of knees. The best
method for removing ticks is to
grasp it with tweezers as close
to the skin as possible and pull
up gently.
If you are feeling sick, have
a fever or rash after potentially
having a tick bite, call your
doctor as soon as possible.
West Nile Virus (WNV) is
the most common mosquito-borne disease in Kansas and
the US. Symptoms of severe illness include high fever, headache, neck stiffness, stupor,
disorientation, coma, tremors,

Bruce Symes gave the
Communion
Meditation,
remembering an article he had
once read about a man who had
raped and murdered a woman.
The woman's dad hated the
man, and then drank himself
into a dark hole. Years later,
in an AA meeting, in walks
the murderer. After hearing
his confession and regret, and
now looking at the man thru
spiritual eyes, he forgave him.
We are all pretty self-centered and self-serving, making
life lessons hard and painful.
Forgiveness is a common theme
in the Bible. We need to look at
forgiveness from Christ's perspective, and also look at what
it can mean to us and for us
when we accept His grace and
extend forgiveness to others.
Forgiveness is powerful! When
we forgive, we are following
God's command. By forgiving
others, Christ will also forgive
us. And forgiving others can
relieve us of bitterness, anger
and strife. And when Christ
forgives, he tells us that our
sins have been swept away; he
remembers them no more.
Pastor Chase Riebel gave
the sermon "Compassion: The
Calling to Care". It is God's
intention for us to care for
and help people in need. God
gives us compassion, and when
fueled by the Holy Spirit, it
will give you the desire, the
courage, and the strength to
help someone out. Focusing on
why we should serve the poor

convulsions, muscle weakness, vision loss, numbness
and paralysis. People over 60
years of age are at greater risk.
According to KDHE, our region
is at moderate probability at
this time of being bitten by a
WNV carrying mosquito.
For WNV prevention residents
should wear mosquito repellent, where long sleeves and
long pants as weather permits,
use mosquito netting on baby
carriages and playpens, and
dump standing water twice
weekly. Also, avoid outdoors
when mosquitoes are most
active.
Rabies is a viral disease that
affects the nervous system.
Rabies is typically spread by an
infected animal biting another
animal or a human. Raccoons
account for most of the cases
of rabies in wild animals, followed by skunks, bats, foxes
and coyotes. If you are exposed
to the saliva of these animals
in the wild, through a bite or
close encounter, you should
call your doctor to be evaluated
for rabies prophylaxis. Given
on time, this treatment prevents the development of rabies
if you are indeed exposed. If
left untreated, once signs and
symptoms appear, the disease
is practically 100% deadly.
It is important to stay a safe
distance from wildlife, but
if you do happen to have an
encounter with a wild animal,
wash the area immediately
with soap and water and consult with a healthcare provider
as soon as possible.
Have an enjoyable summer,
with lots of time spent outdoors, and remember to take
precautions to prevent insect
and animal-borne diseases.
The book of Job reads like a
novel. Satan struggles to prove
that the reason Job is such
a faithful servant to God is
because God blesses Job for his
faithfulness. The book centers
around the following challenge
Satan presents to God. But
strike out your hand (God) and
strike everything he has and he
will curse you to your face..
What follows is Jobs struggle
to make some sense out of a
situation that is far out of his
control.
In Job 14 Job begins to talk
about death and sees no hope
for man. He says even when a
tree is cut down there is hope for
it to eventually begin to regrow
because new growth can occur
with the roots receive water,
but with man there appears
to be no such hope. Job then
begins to ponder the deeper
question. If a man dies will he
live again? In the next several
chapters Job is counseled by
three men who are referred
to as his comforters, who only
lead him away from this question with charges of sin against
Job being the reason Job is in
this situation.
In chapter 9:32-35 Job
reveals his fear of God when he
says. He is not a man like me
that I might answer him that
we might confront each other
in court. If only there were
someone to arbitrate between
us, to lay his hand upon us
both, someone to remove Gods
rod from me, so that his terror
would frighten me no more.
Then I would speak up without fear of him, but as it now

How and why God chooses

gives is beyond mans ability

himself and God, we have. In

speaking to the early church
says. For there is one God and
one mediator between God and
men, the man Christ Jesus.
We live on this side of the New

a new relationship of conscious
peace with God, going beyond
what was known under the Old

foresaw the need 1500 years

OPINION
Soros money fails in dark media ploy
The Kansas Supreme Court has settled voting district maps in time for the upcoming elections just the way Republicans in the Kansas
Legislature drew them, and George Soros is not
happy about it.
You can tell it by the hair-on-fire, end-ofthe world wailing by Soros dark money-funded media shills at The Kansas Reflector and
other pouting Leftists in his national network
of so-called media organizations, whose job
since 2016 has been to blend in to the media
landscape in multiple states, attack traditional
American values and help turn you Left.
In a nutshell, the fops at the Reflector are
beside themselves that Kansas voters support
a Republican Legislature and appreciate the
way its protecting the state from the disasters
we see in Democrat-run states. And theyre
probably a little concerned that failing in their
mission might convince Soros and the other
far-left money bags hidden by multiple generations of 501(c)(3)s to pull the plug and find more
effective ways to spend their money.
But since Soros big win with the defrocking
of Donald Trump in 2020, Democrats and liberals have mucked things up so bad theres just
no way to spin news stories to make Democrats
look like they know what theyre doing and
paint big government, liberal initiatives good
old-fashioned Socialism like theyre all rainbows and butterflies. Its not just in Kansas but
nationwide sheer political incompetence and
inability is leading Liberals to a shellacking
in November the likes of which has only been
matched by Wile E. Coyote staring at the headlight in the train tunnel.
Last weeks confirmation by the Kansas
Supreme Court of newly redrawn congressional district maps is just the latest in a string
of losses for liberals in the media supporting the Joe Biden debacle. Kansas Liberals
are terrified their Lone Ranger for the Biden
Agenda Sharice Davids in the 3rd District is
the only Democrat in the Kansas congressional
delegation will get the boot in November after
legislators moved part of Wyandotte County
out of the district due to population growth in
Johnson County.
Theres no doubt that there are a million
ways to divide population among districts.
Did political influence enter into Republicans
decision? No doubt just like parties in power
everywhere have always done during redistricting. In the immortal words of Barack
Obama back in 2009 to Republicans in Congress
regarding his economic agenda (notably a precursor for the Biden disaster) Obama quipped

elections have consequences. In other words:
Tough luck buddy, I won. Get over it.
In the 3rd District the change may in fact be
inconsequential. Much of the Johnson County
growth is young liberals, so Davids has a great
chance of retaining her seat anyway. But who
can blame Republicans in the Legislature for
trying? Davids may be a nice person and a fine
kickboxer, but she is a consistent vote for the
Joe Biden agenda thats put his job approval
rating in the upper 30 percentage points among
Americans.
For Liberals, the futurescape is a bleak one.

and parents first-hand viewpoint on public
education after witnessing it in their kids
online classes during Covid have illuminated
the negative outcomes of a liberal agenda in
action. The U.S. Supreme Court is poised to
overturn Roe v. Wade and allow about half
the state legislatures in the country to enact
more restrictions on abortion. In Kansas and
elsewhere, state legislatures are standing up
against the farce of transgenderism by banning
or attempting to ban men from competing in
womens sports. Kansas and other states have
passed laws banning sanctuary cities that
give local protections to illegal immigrants.
Americans are chagrined that the federal government refuses to protect the country from an
invasion of criminals at our southern border.
Spiking inflation, driven by off-the-rails government Covid spending and record high gasoline prices, steal income from every American.
Those Americans are rightfully putting the
blame where it belongs.

If you have not yet seen the beautiful roses at
the Garnett Motel on 169 you should certainly
go see them. Very beautiful. Worth the drive.
Thank you.
Yeah, to the two idiots sitting there saying its
my body, its my choice why dont you get your
tesitcles cut off instead of having the woman
have to do it? People are tired of Republicans
telling women what do do with their bodies. It
is their body and whats inside it is their business not yours.
The dumb Republicans need to quit blaming
Biden for shortages. Hes got nothing to do
with gas prices. He had nothing to do with baby
formula, it got shut down for being unsafe at
the factories. No one will work, everywhere
you go people are hiring, hiring, hiring. Thats
why we need illegals to come here to do our
jobs because no one else will do it.
Ill believe America has a working justice system once I see Hillary behind bars.
Social media for all its toxicity is the only medium where people can actively and openly push
back against the regime/tv narratives. Thats
why theyre so eager to censor or ban the sites
they dont already control. Imagine how much
more easily manipulated wed be if we only got
our news from television/print.
If the school districts havent been able to spend
their Covid money it should go back to the tax
payers.
If you ever feel useless, just remember the U.S.
took four presidents thousands of lives, trillions
of dollars and 20 years to replace the Taliban
with the Taliban.
I want to hear more about the idea of having
a power plant in Garnett that burns trash and
makes electricity to help cut the cost of electricity for the city residents and the cost of dumping
trash at the landfill. If the landfill is too busy to
have a clean up week, they shouldnt mind if the
city starts burning our trash and taking in trash
from the county to burn. Im sure theyll all still
get paid.

At BLM, nepotism proves itself a cash cow
The racial agitators known as Black Lives
Matter duped thousands of people into donating to their group to stop alleged racial injustices. Yet the people who seemed to benefit the
most were the friends and family of one of the
groups founders.
Based on the latest revelation about the
organizations finances, the only black lives
that mattered were those of co-founder Patrisse
Cullors and her immediate family and friends.
Tax documents revealed that she gave them
millions of dollars in contracts to perform
unspecified jobs for the scandalous group.
Cullors previously came under fire
after reports revealed she spent millions
on multiple extravagant real estate purchases
using BLMs donations. Now comes the latest
story that Cullors helped make those closest to
her wealthy. This means that while numerous
minority-owned businesses were destroyed
by the rioting and looting that was inspired
by BLM, Cullors used money donated to the
group to elevate the lifestyles of herself and
her loved ones.
The records released Tuesday highlighted
that Cullors was the main person responsible
for how the group spent its money. It also
showed that her former romantic partner,
family members, and buddies received contracts from BLM that were worth millions of
NATIONAL COMMENTARY
CHRIS TREMOGLIE, WASHINGTON EXAMINER
dollars, the Washington Examiners Andrew
Kerr reported. Given these recent disclosures
of how the group actually spends its donations, it raises the question of what BLM really should stand for. Is it behind laundering
millions? Or is it buy large mansions?
Because, based on its spending, it most definitely does not stand for what its name suggests.
Whatever its meaning, at BLM, nepotism
pays extremely well.
Consider the facts. Cullorss friend and
member of the groups board of directors,
Shalomyah Bowers, owns a consulting and
managing company that BLM paid over $2
million. Her childs father, Damon Turner, has
an art firm, Trap Heals, that was paid nearly
$1 million for work with BLM. He was given
$969,459 for unspecified work, tax documents
showed. Her brother, Paul, was paid $840,993
for professional security services, whatever
that means.
It must be nice to almost become a millionaire just by protecting your sister.
Its a pretty safe assumption that nearly
everyone who contributed to this deceitful
organization did not think their donations
would be used to buy mansions or enrich the
co-founders family and friends. The group
stoked a great divide in the country, ripping
the country apart. Under the Black Lives
Matter banner, rioters and looters caused billions of dollars in damage throughout the
country much more than the ballyhooed
Jan. 6 Capitol riot. Yet rather than help her
community, or the actual people she claimed
she wanted to help, Cullors looked out for her
own.
Its just the latest proof that BLM is a total
sham that exploited the emotions of woke
people and dead black men for its own benefit.

Dems celebrate, then weaponize demographics
The horrific massacre in Buffalo, New
York, has created a debate about the great
replacement theory, the rancid theory adopted by white supremacists that Jewish people are conspiring to destroy the influence
of white Americans by importing non-white
immigrants.
The Buffalo shooter was in thrall to the theory, as have been other racist and antisemitic
killers.
The theory should be denounced by all people of goodwill and, indeed, it thrives only in
the most sewerish precincts of the internet.
Yet, there is an attempt to tar Republicans
more broadly with the theory and somehow
attribute responsibility for the atrocity in
Buffalo to them on this basis. The argument is
that the likes of Elise Stefanik, a Republican
congresswoman from New York, have warned
that the Democrat party views immigration as
a way to change the electorate in their favor,
and so are mainstreaming the hateful replacement ideology.
This is a smear, and especially perverse
since Republicans sounding the alarm about
this Democratic view have been unquestionably correct. There hasnt been any secretive
cabal at work — its all been out in the open,
discussed by progressive political operatives
and think-tank analysts, and celebrated in the
press.
The left-wing Center for American Progress
issued a report in 2013 titled Immigration
Is Changing the Political Landscape in Key
States. It summarized its argument thusly,
Supporting real immigration reform that
contains a pathway to citizenship for our

nations 11 million undocumented immigrants is the only way to maintain electoral
strength in the future.
Books were written about this idea. The
widely cited (and overinterpreted) 2004
book, The Emerging Democratic Majority,
by John Judis and Ruy Teixeira, called the
Democrats the party of transition as white
America is supplanted by multiracial, multiethnic America. In 2016, Steve Phillips
wrote Brown Is the New White: How the
Demographic Revolution Has Created a New
American Majority. The website for his publisher says the latest edition of the book
contends that hope for a more progressive
political future lies not with increased advertising to middle-of-the-road white voters, but
with cultivating Americas growing, diverse
majority.
Donald Trumps victory in 2016 suppressed
some of this sentiment since it made it clear
that white working-class voters didnt appreciate being spoken of as if they were a relic
of the past; and the 2020 election and its aftermath made the assumption that Democrats
will own Latino voters forevermore seem
increasingly shaky.
But the left wants to create rules that define
it as perfectly acceptable for Democrats to
advocate high levels of immigration as a
means of gaining political power, and out of
bounds for Republicans to call them on it.
Washington Post writer Greg Sargent
slammed New York Rep. Elise Stefanik for
allegedly flirting with the great replacement
theory in Facebook advertisements last year.
They warned that Democrats want a sweeping
amnesty for undocumented immigrants in
order to overthrow our current electorate
and create a permanent liberal majority in
Washington.
Never mind that Stefanik could have drawn
her warning directly from various left-wing
writers and advocacy organizations. Or that
Sargent himself wrote after Barack Obamas
victory in 2012 that the election had been all
about demographics and that the outcome
showed the electorate wasnt reverting to the
older, whiter, more male version Republicans
had hoped for.
What makes Sargents basic view different than Stefaniks, other than the fact that
he welcomes how immigration trends have
changed our politics and she doesnt?
Immigration has been hotly contested

Sobba provided the Review
with a copy of the librarys
material selection policy as
well as its policy regarding
challenges to materials individuals might find objectionable. The policy delineates the
responsible for materials selection to the library director or
other designees.
Library materials will
not be marked or identified to
show approval or disapproval of the contents, the policy reads. The use of rare or
scholarly items of great value
may be controlled to the extent
required to preserve them
from harm, but no further.
Responsibility for what children check-out rests with their
parents or legal guardians.
Selection will not be inhibited
by the possibility that adult
books may inadvertently come
into the possession of children.
Childrens books will be selected with the age and educational
level of the children in mind.
The complaint process first
involves a meeting with the
plaintiffs and the library director. If the complainant wants
further consideration, another meeting between the concerned party and a committee
including the person who recommended the material be purchased, a library board member, someone from the community who is a library user and
a person appointed by the complainant. If the complainant
still isnt satisfied with the
committees decistion, her/she
can petition for a hearing with
the library board within three
weeks of the committee decision.

throughout our history, and is
an inherently highly emotive
issue, involving the composition of our polity and core
questions of national identity.
It can only inflame the issue
further to explicitly weaponize demographic change, as the
left has for decades now. We
should have an immigration
policy that serves the national
interest, not the narrow interest of one political party.
Yes, by all means, further
shun and marginalize replacement theory, but dont support
high levels of immigration for
partisan reasons and expect
the other side not to notice.

sharp increase over last years
$4.13 and a sizable jump from
last weeks $5.82. The cost is
even steeper in the states bigger cities, clocking in at $6.07 in
Los Angeles County and $6.27
in San Francisco.
Part of the issues lie with
refineries, which are struggling to produce an adequate
amount of gasoline; JPMorgan
notes that East Coast gasoline inventories havent been
this low since 2011. The loss
of Russias supply as a result
of its ongoing war in Ukraine
is a contributing factor, as it
increases exports from the U.S.
and Canadian refineries that
typically supply Eastern U.S.
gas stations.
But some experts are less
convinced the national average
will really cross that staggering
$6 a gallon threshold. Its hard
to get to $6, Andy Lipow, president of Lipow Oil Associates,
told CNN. Before we get there,
we would have significant
demand destruction, not only
here, but around the world.
Even if the national average
doesnt surpass that $6 a gallon
mark, it sounds like drivers
can expect one expensive summer travel season.

THE ANDERSON COUNTY REVIEW 5-24-2022 / DANE HICKS
ACs Easton Mead checks the play as he rounds second base during the Bulldogs regional tournament
opener against Prairie View last week. AC dropped the Buffaloes15-0 but fell in the final tournament
round to Girard by a score of 8-6 to end the season 22-2.
Bulldogs come up just short of State
A disappointing end to an amazing regular season after the
Anderson County Bulldogs fall
in the Regional Championship
game to Girard, 8-6.
AC was riding a 22 game
winning streak after losing the
opener, but despite ending the
season 22-2 they will come up
short of state.
Anderson County cruised in
the opening round of districts,
downing Prairie View 15-0 and
then following that up with a
7-0 win over Osage City.
Garrison Martin pitched a
hitless 3 innings in the complete game victory, striking out
5 and walking 4 hitters against
Prairie View.
The win over Osage City
would be another gem as
Anderson County combined
to allow just one hit over the
seven inngs.
Bulldog golf qualified for State
CARBONDALE – Anderson
County boys golf punched
their ticket to the state tournament that kicked off Monday,
May 23 and concludes today in
Salina.
The Bulldogs finished in 2nd
place with a total of 337, behind
first place Santa Fe Trail (310).
Lane Richards finished 4th
to pace AC with a score of 80,
which is 10 over par for the
course.
Eli Martin was just one
stroke behind with an 81, good
for a 6th place finish.
Reese Jarett (86), Tyler
Feuerborn (90) and Carter
Blome (95) finished 12th, 14th
and 18th respectively.
Reece Katzer finished just
outside the top 20 in 24th with
a score of 102.
Viking softball statebound
RICHMOND-The Central Heights Vikings (11-6) were the third
seed, but after opening the regional with a 15-0 win over Crest,
they upset Jayhawk-Linn in the second game 7-5 in 8 innings and
downed Yates Center (17-3), 16-5 to qualify for State.
They open play against Bluestem (22-1) Thursday night at 7:00
p.m. in Pratt.
RICHMOND – Central Heights
head coach Troy Prosser
is extremely happy with his
teams performance throughout the season and is ecstatic
many of them get to showcase
their talent at State track this
coming Friday and Saturday in
Wichita.
It was a hot and humid
regional, which was a change
as competition days this year
have been relatively mild for
the most part.
The heat and humidity
of Kansas spring wasnt able
to deter any of our athletes
Thursday. Im incredibly proud
of all of our kids and its even
sweeter to have several moving
on to one of the greatest championship events in all of high
school sports, Prosser stated.
Three personal records and
a season best propelled the
team to seven state qualifying
events. Jenny Hale and Addey
Froggatte had some fantastic,
personal best throws in the
Javelin and Discus to end their
senior campaigns in excellent
fashion.

Tony Detwiler) dropped their
season best time by six seconds
to become Regional Champions
and set the tone for a great
string of performances in the
running events for us.
Taryn Compton quickly followed that up with a third place
finish in the 100 hurdles then
she and fellow hurdler Tony
both moved on to State with
gritty fourth place finishes in
the 300 hurdles. Lily Meyer and
Cody (3rd and 2nd respectively) then both perfectly executed
the strategies needed in the 800.
Connors victory in the 3200
was a methodical and tactical
race which had him pull away
on the last lap.
I guess its kind of poetic to have regional champions in both our first race on
the track as well as the last.
With the pressure of needing
to qualify now off, the State
Championships are the ultimate reward for all of the hard
work put in, Prosser concluded.

impact higher gas costs will
have on their transportation

Restrictive petroleum industry policies instituted by the
Biden Administration as well
as general inflationary factors
and the Russian invasion of
Ukraine are blamed for the gas
price increase, with markets
reacting to the instability and
petroleum companies taking
advantage of the opportunity to
take profits after a long period
of low oil prices leading up to
2020.
Supplies of gasoline are
plentiful, however so if youre
willing to pay the price, you
can always find gas. Kansas
AAA reported last week the
national average cost of a gallon of regular unleaded gas was
$4.58, with the Kansas average
at $4.04. The lowest prices in
the state were in the south central and northeast most counties, with prices in the $3.90s
and $3.80s.
The
reporting
agency
showed Kansas unleaded averaging $2.84 statewide a year
ago.

has been in the 2nd District for
decades.
In another ruling the same
day, the KSC affirmed state
legislative and senate district changes which were also
hammered out by legislators
according to decennial census
data. That reconfigured map
moved Anderson County out of
the 5th Representative District,
currently represented by Mark
Samsel of Wellsville, and into
the 9th District whose seat is
held by Kent Thompson of Iola.
The new map leaves Anderson
County in the 12th Senate
District held by Caryn Tyson of
Parker.
The affirmation of the state
rep districts means retired
local veterinarian Republican
Fred Gardner of Garnett, who
initially filed for office against
Samsel in the 5th, will now run
for the Republican nomination
in the 9th.
Samsel is so far the only
filing for the 5th District, and
Gardner so far is the only filing on either the Democrat or
Republican ticket in the 9th.
Candidates can file for state
legislative posts or the Kansas
congressional races up until
June 10.
