King James Version
City offers exercise
programs to help people
get fit for the new year
BY VICKIE MOSS
December 23, 2014
THE ANDERSON COUNTY REVIEW
GARNETT For many, its not
long after Christmas dinner settles in your stomach before you
start to think of ways to take off
those delicious holiday pounds.
The
City
of
Garnett
Recreation Department is one
step ahead of you, with a variety
of exercise programs geared to
help you start the new year with
a new commitment to health
and fitness.
Three exercise programs,
including returning favorites
and something new, will start
in early January at the Garnett
Recreation Center, 510 N. Lake
Road.
The classes are timed to
begin right after the New Year
to appeal to people who make
getting fit one of their New
Years resolutions, city recreation director Phil Bures said.
Theres really no excuse
to avoid exercising, Bures said.
The rec center is open 5:30 a.m.
to 8 p.m. in the winter. The citys
exercise programs provide a
structured environment for people who prefer that type of workout, but the rec center also has
a variety of equipment to help
people at all levels of fitness.
Some people may be intimidated
by the equipment, but the structured programs also can offer a
chance for people to familiarize
themselves with the rec center,
Bures said.
Its a feather in the citys cap
to have something like this,
Bures said. Weve got this facility and we want to utilize it as
much as we can.
Most of the classes take place
in the new aerobic center, which
was recently added thanks to a
grant.
The programs include:
Yoga classes. Jan. 6-Feb. 12
For unto us a Child is born,
unto us a Son is given: and The
Government shall be upon His
Shoulder: and His Name shall be
called Wonderful, Counsellor, The
Mighty GOD, The Everlasting
Father, The Prince of Peace. Of
the increase of His Government
and peace there shall be no end,
upon the Throne of David, and
upon His Kingdom, to order it,
and to establish it with judgment
and with justice from henceforth
even for ever. The zeal of the
LORD of Hosts will perform this
(Isaiah 9:6-7).
The Story of the Birth of
Christ As told through Luke
Luke 2:1 And it came to pass in
those days, that there went out
a decree from Caesar Augustus,
that all the world should be
taxed. 2:2 (And this taxing was
first made when Cyrenius was
governor of Syria.) 2:3 And all
went to be taxed, every one into
his own city. 2:4 And Joseph also
went up from Galilee, out of the
city of Nazareth, into Judaea,
unto the city of David, which is
called Bethlehem; (because he
was of the house and lineage
of David:) 2:5 To be taxed with
Mary his espoused wife, being
great with Child. 2:6 And so it
was, that, while they were there,
the days were accomplished that
she should be delivered.
2:7 And she brought forth her
firstborn Son,
and wrapped Him in swaddling
clothes, and laid Him in a manger; because there was no room
for them in the inn.
2:8 And there were in the same
country shepherds abiding in
the field, keeping watch over
their flock by night. 2:9 And, lo,
the angel of the LORD came upon
them, and the glory of the LORD
shone round about them: and
they were sore afraid. 2:10 And
the angel said unto them, Fear

Family discovers gifting others is true Christmas spirit
Harts shift gift-giving to
donations to children at
Childrens Mercy Hospital
BY VICKIE MOSS
THE ANDERSON COUNTY REVIEW
GARNETT Five years ago, the Hart
family was overwhelmed by the hustle
and bustle of holiday shopping. Donna
Hart was busy with her Scentsy business, and there simply wasnt time
to buy Christmas gifts. Plus, it was
becoming more and more difficult to
find the right gifts for her children
and grandchildren.
Kids today have so much stuff,
Hart said. It takes away from the joy
of gift giving.
So, in December of 2010, Donna and
Troy Hart of Garnett and their five
children, their childrens spouses and
grandchildren 21 family members in
all – decided to try something different. They quit exchanging gifts.
Just because they quit exchanging
gifts, however, doesnt mean they quit
celebrating Christmas. It doesnt even
mean they quit buying gifts. Instead,
they purchase gifts throughout the
year and donate them to Childrens
Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Mo.
Instead of what we would spend on
each other, we buy gifts for the kids at
Childrens Mercy, Donna Hart said.
Sometimes, the gifts are small
items like coloring books, trinkets
or Scentsy buddies on sale through
Harts business.
At some point near Christmas, the
family gathers and, as a group, donates
the gifts at the hospital. Each year,
they pick a different activity to follow
the donation. One year, they toured
Kansas City to see Christmas light
displays. Another year, they went
to Crown Center and ate at Fritzs
Railroad Restaurant where meals are
delivered via a train track system.
They try to pick an activity that
appeals to the grandchildren, Hart
said. They decide as a group where to
go.
Everybody looks forward to it,
even the grandkids, she said. Some

USD 365 approves new track building
Second round of bids
result in $200K savings
compared to first bids
BY VICKIE MOSS
THE ANDERSON COUNTY REVIEW
GARNETT A new building to house
restroom facilities, locker rooms and
concessions at the Anderson County
Jr./Sr. High School track and field
should be completed this summer,
just in time for the 2015-16 school
year, at a cost of nearly a million
dollars.
USD 365 Board of Education members at a special meeting Thursday,
Dec. 18, approved a total bid of about
$384,500 from Decker Construction
THE ANDERSON COUNTY REVIEW 12-23-2014/ Vickie Moss of Coffeyville to construct the new

too expensive, and resulted in savings of more than $200,000 compared
to the first round of bids.
The decision marks the end of
a months-long process to construct
new restrooms, concessions and
locker rooms, plus new bleachers, all
on the west end of the track facility.
Board members said previously the
structure was long overdue, because
no similar facilities were built when
the track was first constructed about
10 years ago. Guests and athletes
must use porta-potties, which
reflect badly on the school and district, board members said.
Superintendent Don Blome initially wanted a stadium-style set of
bleachers with a cinder-block building underneath that could house the
restrooms, locker rooms and concessions. But initial bids came in
too high. Blome said he expected
the 3,000 square foot building would
cost about $150 per square inch, or
roughly $450,000. He didnt provide
exact figures for the initial bids, but
said they came in at about $200 per
square foot. That translates to about
$600,000.
Because of the higher-than-expected
costs, Blome sent the project back
out for bids with two significant
changes. He asked for bids for a
building that was separate from the
bleachers, and made of metal instead
of cinder-block.
That change resulted in savings of
about $240,000 from the initial bids,
and roughly $100,000 in savings from
Blomes expected costs. The building
will cost about $128 per square foot.
Deckers bid for the building actually was $359,500, but board members
approved spending another $25,000
for brick wainscoting on the exteSEE TRACK ON PAGE 3A

COMMUNITY DINNER
ANDERSON COUNTY BOARD OF
COMMISSIONERS DEC. 8
Chairman James K. Johnson called
the meeting of the Anderson County
Commission to order at 9:00 a.m. on
December 8 at the County Commission
Room. Attendance: James K. Johnson,
Present: Eugene Highberger, Present:
Jerry Howarter, Present. The pledge of
allegiance was recited. Minutes of the
previous meeting were approved as
presented.
Road and Bridge
Lester Welsh, Road Supervisor,
met with the commission. Mid States
Materials has talked to another county
who might be willing to purchase some
rock from the quarry they are going to
open. Lester would be willing to agree
to a smaller quantity if the other county
goes along. He has been looking at graders. Commissioner Highberger moved to
purchase a 2012 Caterpillar grader from
Folley Equipment for $204,500 out of the
Road and Bridge Fund. Commissioner
Howarter seconded. Approved 3 0.
Roads concerns were discussed. Hwy
permit 14,1208:1 for CenturyLink was
presented and approved.
Veterans Memorial
Leon Lickteig and Phyllis Gettler,
Anderson County Clerk, met with the
commission concerning the Veterans
Memorial. The commission previously
stated they would like all the veterans
names on the memorial. To proceed
with doing that would run approximately
$100,000. They questioned if the commission is still in favor of proceeding with
that. The commission feels all names
need of residents who are born and
raised in Anderson County, and who
served during conflict should be included. Currently there is about $61,000 in
the fund. The committee is selling bricks
for donations but it will take a lot of
donations to get the project completed.
Any suggestions for fund raisers and
donations would be appreciated.
Appraiser
Steve Markham, Assistant Appraiser,
met with the commission. He presented
his letter of completion of the RMA program and is now a certified appraiser.
Rural Fire
JD Mersman, Rural Fire Director, met
with the commission. He presented bids
from financial institutions for financing

Jan. 29, the new emergency
department will seamlessly
continue to provide emergency
care for patients. The community will appreciate the expertise and quality care provided
in this modern department,
equipped with the most up-todate technology.
Privacy is paramount for
our patients, with secure access
through the emergency department and a private waiting
room for family and friends.
The new modern facility features the highest standards in
equipment and care, exceeding the national standards for
Level IV trauma status. With
an advanced airflow technology system, the trauma room
ensures patients have the most
sterile environment possible
when procedures are required.
The new emergency department has a special decontamination room for immediate
isolation and treatment of
patients with exposure to hazardous materials or biological
agents. Additionally, the ambulance is located on-site for quick
response.
We truly offer our patients
the most convenient and exceptional experience in emergency
care, Tanya Ewert, R.N., and
paramedic, said. Our highly
trained providers are on-site
24/7 and are dedicated to providing our patients with the
best patient-centered care experience.
The newly certified Level
IV Trauma Center ensures
patients receive the highest quality of care during
life-threatening situations. This
trauma rating system allows
the treatment team to assess
patients who come to the emergency department, and to recognize and treat life-threatening
injuries and conditions, provide immediate treatment and
stabilization, and determine
appropriate level of care for
each patient. This secure, family-centered department also
features a comfortable waiting
area, covered patient entrance,
and all-private exam and trauma rooms.
According to medical director, Timothy Spears, D.O.,
Anderson County Hospital is
able to treat more patients at

EDITORIAL
Feinsteins Travesty
The Senate Intelligence Committee spent
roughly $50 million on its investigation
into the CIA and apparently couldnt find
Michael Haydens phone number.
The committee portrays Gen. Hayden, the
former CIA director, as a liar who deceived
Congress about the agencys interrogation
program, yet the committee couldnt be
bothered to interview him.
Thats because the committee, led by
California Democrat Dianne Feinstein,
didnt bother to interview anyone. The committee didnt want to include anything that
might significantly complicate its cartoonish depiction of a CIA that misled everyone
so it could maintain a secret prison system
for the hell of it.
The Feinstein report scores some points.
It makes plain that the CIA program wasnt
adequately controlled, especially at the
beginning, that it went too far, and that the
agency became too invested in defending it.
But the thrust of the report is devoted to
the proposition that torture, or harsh interrogation, never works. This is important to
critics of the CIA program because they are
almost never willing to say that torture is
wrong and that we should never do it — even
if it sometimes works and potentially saves
lives. They lack the moral conviction to
make their case solely on principle.
Even though its executive summary runs
more than 500 pages, the report lacks basic
context, specifically an account of the postSept. 11 environment in which nearly everyone expected another attack and wanted to
do everything possible to avoid it. This is
why the likes of the impeccably liberal Jay
Rockefeller, vice chairman of the Senate
Intelligence Committee, could say after we
captured Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in 2003
that we should be very, very tough with
him.
The harsh methods that the CIA adopted
dont, in isolation, shock the conscience.
Theres nothing, for instance, about throwing someone up against a flexible wall, grabbing and shaking him, keeping him in a

not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings
of great joy, which shall be to all people.
2:11 For unto you is born this day in
the city of David a Saviour, which is
Christ the LORD. 2:12 And this shall be
a sign unto you; Ye shall find the Babe
wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in
a manger. 2:13 And suddenly there was
with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
2:14 Glory to God in the highest, and on
earth peace, good will toward men. 2:15
And it came to pass, as the angels were
gone away from them into Heaven, the
shepherds said one to another, Let us
now go even unto Bethlehem, and see
this thing which is come to pass, which
the LORD hath made known unto us.
2:16 And they came with haste, and
found Mary, and Joseph, and the Babe
lying in a manger. 2:17 And when they
had seen it, they made known abroad
the saying which was told them concerning this Child. 2:18 And all they
that heard it wondered at those things
which were told them by the shepherds.
2:19 But Mary kept all these things, and
pondered them in her heart. 2:20 And
the shepherds returned, glorifying and

Matthew 1:16 And Jacob begat Joseph
the husband of Mary, of whom was
born Jesus, Who is called Christ. 1:17
So all the generations from Abraham
to David are fourteen generations; and
from David until the carrying away
into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into
Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations. 1:18 Now the birth of Jesus
Christ was on this wise: When as His
mother Mary was espoused to Joseph,
before they came together, she was
found with Child of the Holy Ghost.
1:19 Then Joseph her husband, being
a just man, and not willing to make
her a public example, was minded to
put her away privily. 1:20 But while
he thought on these things, behold,
the angel of the LORD appeared unto
him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou
son of David, fear not to take unto
thee Mary thy wife: for That which is
conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
1:21 And she shall bring forth a Son,
and thou shalt call His Name JESUS:
for He shall save His people from their
sins. 1:22 Now all this was done, that it
might be fulfilled which was spoken of
the LORD by the prophet, saying, 1:23
Behold, a virgin shall be with Child,
and shall bring forth a Son, and they
shall call His Name Emmanuel, which
being interpreted is, God With Us. 1:24
Then Joseph being raised from sleep
did as the angel of the LORD had bidden
him, and took unto him his wife: 1:25
And knew her not till she had brought
forth her firstborn Son: and he called
His Name JESUS.
2:1 Now when Jesus was born
in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of
Herod the king,
behold, there came wise men from the
east to Jerusalem,
2:2 Saying, Where is He that is born
King of the Jews?
for we have seen His Star in the east,
and are come to worship Him. 2:3 When
Herod the king had heard these things,
he was troubled, and all Jerusalem
with him. 2:4 And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes
of the people together, he demanded of
them where Christ should be born. 2:5
And they said unto him, In Bethlehem
of Judaea: for thus it is written by
the prophet, 2:6 And thou Bethlehem,
in the land of Juda, art not the least
among the princes of Juda: for out of
thee shall come a Governor, that shall
rule My people Israel. 2:7 Then Herod,
when he had privily called the wise
men, inquired of them diligently what
time the Star appeared. 2:8 And he sent
them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and
search diligently for the young Child;
and when ye have found Him, bring
me word again, that I may come and
worship Him also. 2:9 When they had
heard the king, they departed; and, lo,
the Star, which they saw in the east,
went before them, till it came and stood
over where the young Child was.
2:10 When they saw the Star, they
rejoiced with exceeding great joy. 2:11
And when they were come into the
house, they saw the young Child with
Mary His mother, and fell down, and
worshipped Him: and when they had
opened their treasures, they presented
unto Him gifts; gold, and frankincense,

the children visited by Santa and
given a gift someone had donated.
A few months later, Taylor

received a Scentsy buddy during
a stay at Childrens Mercy. Hart
doesnt know for sure that its one
she donated, but she likes the local
connection.
I know its a huge benefit to
these kids. You never know when
something we do will create a meaningful experience when theyre at
Childrens Mercy, she said.
Hart said even though her family doesnt exchange Christmas gifts
anymore, the grandchildren dont
go without presents. Their parents
still provide Christmas gifts, as do
other relatives. And Hart said she
devotes more attention to birthday
gifts, when each child can be celebrated individually.
She especially likes keeping the
focus of the holiday on the true
meaning of Christmas, and said the
idea of donating gifts to children
offers valuable lessons on spirituality and giving.
Children in her family have
everything they need, and in a
few years, they probably wont
remember what gift Grandma

remember helping sick children.
I think it does create more meaningful memories for Christmas,

This is for the guy that said the other guy was
an idiot about the cops. If youre gonna quote
something dont you be an idiot too. One, we
have a highway patrolman that lives on Park
Road. Two, I see the sheriff deputies in this town
every day and night, I dont know if they ever
leave the city limits. Theyre either at the sale
barn talking to a city cop, or they park at the lake
talking to a city cop or theyre in some parking
lot talking to a city cop. So whats there to say
that thered be no cops in town in town if you
got rid of the city cops. Come on guy, at least get
your facts straight.
What a joke. In the Garnett paper, the landfill
looking for somebody to clean the bathroom two
times a month. Mop, dust and clean the bathroom. What is wrong with the county? Let the
landfill operator and the employees there clean
their own bathroom and clean up you know
what.
You know I have an idea. Instead of getting rid of
the Garnett cops, why dont we get rid of some of
the meth dealing scum that call Garnett home?
Why dont we get rid of some of these little punks
who steal (deleted) and try to show off for their
equally derelict friends by picking fights with
other kids? Why dont we get rid of the losers at
the high school who get DUIs and run the risk
of killing you or me or our families when they
drive drunk? Why dont we get rid of the spoiled,
entitled do-nothings who pull their crap and
then cry to mommy and daddy and have them
go to bat for them with the teachers or the cops
or the court? In my opinion we need to get rid of
some people, but it isnt the cops.

and Thursdays from 7 p.m. To 8
p.m. In the aerobic room. Cost is
$40 for six weeks (12 sessions).
Sign up and pay fee at Garnett
Recreation Center. Instructor is
Janon Gordon. Beginners are welcome. Class size is limited to 15
people; additional interest could
result in a second class.
Zumba is the newest program
to be offered by the city, and came
after people requested a program
that was fun but less intense than
the Core and Cardio program,
Bures said. Gordon recently
became a certified instructor to
allow the city to use the official
Zumba program.
A fourth exercise program could
begin in late January or February.
Recreation leaders are working to
purchase special bicycles to use
in a spin class. Spin classes are
popular because they use special
stationary bicycles to work out.
Its a low-impact program, good
for people with bad knees and feet,
or who have trouble with high-in-
tensity programs like Core and
Cardio. Its especially popular with
runners and cyclists, Bures said. If
the city can find money to purchase
the bikes, the class likely will be
taught by Ann Marie Strobel.
Its not done a lot of places
because you have to buy the bikes,
so well be ahead of the game to
have something like that, Bures
said. We try to offer programs that
appeal to a variety of people.

Poems show the real meaning of Christmas
As most of you already know
I love poetry and especially at
this time of the year. So without further ado, let me share
a couple of my favorites with
you.
The Real Meaning of
Christmas
Two thousand years ago the
King of Kings was born
The Lamb of God later
made to feel the thorn.
If his words are accepted and
not scorned
They will make us all reborn.
Through Gods grace, Joseph
and Mary presented
A gift to the world that
day,which we can all repay
by
living
the
Ten
Commandments each and
every day.
Try to remember and keep
in your heart and mind
Jesuss gospel while here on
Earth
Redemption not a life lived
in constant mirth.
Peace on Earth, good will
toward man
Everyone should try it,
whenever they can.
The Lord gave us the option
and choice of free will
Now its up to us to fit the
bill.
So when youre CHRISTMAS
shopping for family and friends
And money is tight at both
ends
Remember that the greatest
gift of all

Is your Love of JESUS in the

Christmas time seems
to always bring back special
memories to all of us.
That Little Country
Church
It was a small little Church I
attended
Back in my childhood days
The little country preacher
taught
Me about Jesus and how he
Alone could change my
ways.
It wasnt much to look at
with fancy
Scenic things it did not glow
But this little Church Oh
how I loved it so!
Each time I would hear the
little country
Preacher talk of the Lord
It gave me a chill
And one day while he was
preaching
I felt Gods nudge upon my
soul
Merry Christmas from Henry and Kay Roeckers.
And I accepted Jesus into my
heart
As I allowed the entry of
Gods will
My heart leaped out of control within

Lady Wolverines clawing way through season
The Westphalia Lady Wolverines are
clawing their way through the season. This
year there are a total of 21 girls in 6th-8th
grade playing basketball. The girls, half
of them new to basketball this year, have
done a great job with improving their skills
and understanding the game. Their growth
so far this season is remarkable.
With five games down, the B team is
currently 1-4. Even though the B team
has only won one game so far, they are an
energetic, positive, and fun bunch of girls.
Theyve had a couple of really close games,
which actually felt like wins. They are very
teachable and exciting to watch. It will be
exciting to see their growth in the upcoming games this season, and in the upcoming
years.
The A team is currently 2-3. The
improvement in the past couple of weeks is
outstanding. The girls have struggled with
gaining back their confidence after the
first couple of losses, but the girls recent
win over Crest helped turn them back
around. The girls are playing together as a
team, and most importantly, having fun on
the court.
The returning eighth graders have
shown great leadership in practices and in
games. Katelynn Renyer and Jenna Schmit
lead the Lady Wolverines in scoring, averaging 6 and 7 points per game. Braelyn
Falls, the main point guard, keeps the
game moving smoothly and is averaging
4 points a game. Shannon OMalley and
Kate Diekers defensive presence on the
court helps cause turnovers, which leads
to more offensive opportunities. Elizabeth
Comforts aggressiveness and rebounds
keep the Lady Wolverines in the game.
All of the girls help to keep the flame
burning on the court with their determination and hard work. The Westphalia Lady
Wolverines are looking forward to keeping
that fire for the rest of the season.
Westphalia boys face ups, downs so far
The first half of the boys
season has had its ups and
downs so far. The B team has
gotten a lot better about playing team basketball in passing
to each other quicker which
then turns into more open
shots for one another. Our
defense has improved since we
first started, the 6th graders
are getting more comfortable
with the speed of the game and
our first year 8th graders have
improved in the comfort level
in game situations as well.
The A team at the half way
point has a 2-3 record, which
includes an overtime loss to
Jayhawk Linn for the first
game of the season to get the
season off with a bang. The A
team has 5 returning players
from last years team. Leading
scorers for the A team are
Jonathon Borntreger (4 ppg),
Roscoe Weatherbee (6 ppg),
Austin Adams (6 ppg) and
Korbin Edgecomb (12 ppg).
The offense has gotten its
better starts when their defense
has come up with quick turnovers. Austin Adams, Ridge
Pracht, Korbin Edgecomb, and
Jonathon Borntreger have all
had a big impact on getting
the defense going every game.
The first half of the season has
been a lot of learning of basketball with the team, this is
the first year playing for Will
Turney and 2nd year for Clay
Rolf who both have provided
needed energy off of the bench.
The boys are learning how to
play with each other towards
everyones strengths in game

situations. The second half
after Christmas Break should
be a lot of fun and we are looking forward to being a part of it.

PLEASANTON The Lancers
smashed their way through a
32-point second quarter run
against Pleasanton last week
to head into Christmas break
with a 55-26 win.
Offensively we werent
great, but we re getting better,
said Lancer head coach Travis
Hermreck. We were able to
generate a lot of our offense
through our defense and did a
good job getting out and running the floor.
Crest held a 9-2 lead in
the slow starting first period, but set fire to the second
period scoring and held the
BluJays to 5 points in the period. Pleasanton rekindled its
offense briefly in the third period but couldnt overcome the
deficit.
Hunter Frazell and Evan
Godderze led Crest scoring
with 16 and 14 points.
Hunter and Evan did a
good job managing the game
for us, Hemreck said, and
Gage (Adams) and Colton
(Strickler) gave us a big spark
off the bench.
The Lancers hit only 9
percent of their three-point
shots and had 18 turnovers to
Pleasantons 35. Crest shot 65
percent from the free throw
line (13/20) and at 18/32 was 56
percent on two-point field goal
shooting.
Not the greatest performance ever, but a nice win on
the road. Hermreck said.

LOCAL
That guys a real card
Use your business card as a
modern business weapon; think
of it as a tiny 3.25×2 inch ninja
star you can fling with Jackie
Chan precision and speed. Its
a great, but underused tool to
help you sell stuff.
A quick warning though: If
youre using your home computer to print your own business cards BE SURE they are
of proper quality. Nothing says
I do this on the side more than
a cheesy-looking homemade
business card complete with
tear-away perforation edges,
ink smears and typographical
errors. I print business cards
so I cant say Im unbiased but
when you have a professional
printer print your cards you get
the benefit of his grammar and
language skills and a higher
quality product. A decent set of
500-1,000 cards will cost you $50$70 and will be well worth every
penny.
You may already have a
great set of cards, and they
may be pushed back to the back
of your desk behind that old
sandwich wrapper and the D
batteries which have probably
gone bad by now. Take them
out and set them somewhere
youll see them every day. Put
some in your shirt pocket (or
somewhere they wont get dogeared from wear every day) and
follow these tips to use them to
generate sales.
1) On the counter: If you
have a storefront with a register counter, be sure to put them
out for the taking, and be sure
your clerks drop one in every
sack or bag that a customer
takes out.
HOW TO SELL STUFF
Dane Hicks
Review Publisher
2) Anytime you leave a tip,
leave your card.
3) Theres obviously a fine
line between card drops and littering, so dont overdo this, but
be sure to leave cards on public bulletin boards or at coffee
shops, etc. You can even go into
neighborhoods or door-to-door
in business areas and leave a
card. Some may get tossed, but
some may not.
4) Slip your card into video
cases when you rent movies.
And dont forget when you mail
a bill or pay your taxes or send
anybody a check for anything
drop in a card.
5) If you go to a fair or an
expo even if you dont have
your own booth chat with vendors and give them your card.
Make it a game with yourself.
Carry cards with you everyday,
and think of a new place each
day to leave a card. Its one of
the cheapest ways to market
yourself and generate sales.

Mid-America Nutrition gets $32K grant for Meals on Wheels
Mid-America
Nutrition
Program received a $32,750
grant from the Walmart
Foundation to replace its walkin cooler and freezer.
Nutrition
Mid-America
Program has been providing
Meals on Wheels and serving
the seniors in east central
Kansas for more than 30 years.
The organization provides
balanced meals and nutritional support to a six county
area, which helps seniors stay
healthy and independent in
their own homes.
We are extremely grateful
to the Walmart Foundation
for helping us to replace a
refrigeration unit that has
required more and more frequent service. No one knows
the exact age of the current
unit but we can trace it back
at least 25 years, said Chris
Bean, director of development
and outreach of Mid-America
Nutrition Program. This grant
will allow us to purchase a new
cooler/freezer that that will be
more efficient. Refrigeration is
one of the most basic necessities of our operation and allows
us to provide a safe product to
an underserved senior population.
The Walmart Foundations
Kansas State Giving Program
has awarded more than $135,000
to five nonprofits throughout
the state dedicated to serving
residents through its core areas
of giving: hunger relief and
