Budget exceeds revenue

THE ANDERSON COUNTY REVIEW
MOUND CITY The Kansas Attorney
Generals Attorneys is opposing a July
motion by attorneys for James Rocky
Allen that he be released from GPS
monitoring as a condition of his current bond and that he be allowed to
move to a home in Centerville from a
location in Princeton where hes resided since his bond was reduced several
months ago.
Allen is accused in the December
2020 vehicular murder of his mother,
Charlotte Grimes, 70 of Garnett, on a
rural road south of Parker.
James Rocky Allen, 44, was
released from jail after his bond was
reduced from $1 million to $250,000
in November 2021. Since that time
hes resided in Princeton and worn
a court-ordered monitoring device
and been forced to comply with drug
screenings along with other conditions
of his release. A preliminary hearing
in the case is set for
October 17.
Allens
attorney
Vanessa
Riebli
argued a modification to Allens bond
was justified due to
contradictions Allen
presented during the
Allen November 2021 bond
hearing which resulted in revisions to the
Reconstruction/Investigation report
filed on the incident by the Kansas
Highway Patrol. Riebli said inaccuracies in the report, admitted to by the
KHP, concluded that Allens Vehicular
Homicide and Second Degree Murder
charges were no longer warranted. She
also noted Allen had been released on
bond for over seven months with no

property owners who saw near
unprecedented increases in their
assessed property valuations this
year will pay over a million in new
taxes for the county budget in 2023
increases that bump up against the
countys Revenue Neutral notification requirements but which they
say are necessary in order to maintain county services.
A public budget hearing will
be held August 29 at 10 a.m. at
the Anderson County Community
Building at 10 a.m. to allow public
comment on the spending plan.
The draft budget reflects a plan
to increase spending from $14.4
million authorized for 2022 to $15.2
million next year, buoyed by $8.8
million in property tax dollars in
2022 up to $9.8 million in 2023.
The overall plan when projected
onto the tax rates generates a mill
levy of 78.174 for 2023, down from
84.288 last year while taking into
consideration a 20 percent overall
increase in the countys assessed
property valuation to a record
$126.2 million for 2023.
Kansas Revenue Neutral law
passed in March 2021 requires local
governments to give specific notice
to property owners and hold a public hearing if the amount theyll
raise in tax dollars exceeds the prior
year. Anderson County Clerk Juie
Wettstein said the notices should
be arriving in mailboxes in coming
days. Besides providing a heads
up about the current year tax situation, the notice also makes the case
that the Revenue Neutral mandate
doesnt take rising costs for local
governments into consideration.
While this new revenue neutral
law is an important step for budget
transparency, it does not take infla-

Garnett Library Board votes
unanimously to keep Gender
Queer without age restrictions
BY DANE HICKS
THE ANDERSON COUNTY REVIEW
GARNETT Library board members in
Garnett voted unanimously last week to
keep a controversial and graphically illustrated transgender memoir in the librarys
Adult Non-fiction section, over objections
from opponents of the book who argued it
is pornographic and constitutes a grooming manual to attract and develop confused
young people into a transgender lifestyle.
Gender Queer by Maia Kobabe, who
identifies herself as non-binary (neither
male nor female) has been sparking con-
tion into account, the notice reads.
As property values are rising, so
are the costs of goods and services.
To provide residents with the
same (or better) level of service, it
costs more, the notice reads, mentioning higher costs for asphalt for
streets, mowing services and other
community priorities.
Kansas property owners last felt
a similar hike in their assessed valuations in 1990, after voters passed
a 1986 reclassification amendment
to the state constitution which mandated updated property valuations
statewide, some of which had not
be refigured according to actual
market prices for property since
the 1960s. The implementation of
the move drove property values
up some 20 percent across Kansas,
resulting in mass tax protests and
political upheaval that eventually
cost Republican Mike Hayden the
governorship to Democrat Joan
Finney.

Countys annual delinquent taxes down again
Declining trend may show
countys aggressive stance
regarding tax sales is working
BY DANE HICKS
THE ANDERSON COUNTY REVIEW 8-16-2022 / DANE HICKS
Parched ground in the area and grass fire threat has been the result from
the lack of recent moisture and temperatures bumping into the 100 degree
range. Rain showers today are expected to drop temps into the mid-toupper 80s this week.
THE ANDERSON COUNTY REVIEW
GARNETT The total owed by Anderson
County tax delinquent property owners
hit the lowest level in 2021 of any time
in the past four years, suggesting a more
aggressive policy by county commissioners to pursue problem delinquencies is having success.
The legally-required publication of
county delinquent taxes published in
todays Review totals $317,526 owed by
property owners who are at least one
year delinquent in their property tax
payments. Thats the lowest number in
four years a time period which has
seen declines in that delinquency total
every year but one since an all-time high
of some $398,000 in 2018.
Anderson County undertook a more
aggressive stance on delinquencies in
recent years, scheduling tax foreclosure
sales that basically condemn and sell
years-long delinquent properties to new
owners for usually pennies on the dollar
owed, in hopes that the new owners will
pay future taxes and may even develop
those properties into more substantial
community assets. A sale this year targeted 62 tracts of property with 60 put
on the sale bloc in 2021. New buyers are
waived the back taxes but still pay their
sale price plus associated research and
publication fees.
Anderson County Counselor James
Campbell told the Review prior to last
years sale tax sale deadlines typically
force about 10 percent of owners to pay
up after the final notice is published in
the newspaper
Anderson County Treasurers Office
staffer Harold DeForest said the 2018

KSHSAA wants fairness in sports, just not for girls
Move to level field between
private, public school teams
absent on state trans issue
BY DANE HICKS
THE ANDERSON COUNTY REVIEW
TOPEKA The Kansas Board of
Education will consider a recommendation approved by the Kansas State
High School Activities Association
(KSHSAA) to effectively penalize suc-
cessful private school teams in an
effort to level the playing field with
its public school competitors. But
KSHSAA shied away from taking the
same stand the last two years when
the fairness issue was transgender
athletes vs. biological girls.
In the 2020-21 school year, KSHSAAmember private schools, only 8% (28)
of all high schools, won a remarkable 36% of state championships in
which they were eligible to compete.
A review of the history of state cham-
pionships shows a decidedly private
school favor among the leaders in
Classes 2A-5A.
St. Thomas Aquinas of Overland
Park, Kapaun Mt. Carmel, and Bishop
Carroll, both of Wichita, take the first
three positions in 5A. 4A is headed by Bishop Miege of Roeland Park
and Topeka Hayden. The 3A leader is
Wichita Collegiate, and the top spots
in 2A belong to Sacred Heart in Salina
and Pittsburgs St. Marys-Colgan.
The KSHSAA proposal is known as
Rule 5:
As reported in the Butler
County Times-Gazette, it
employs an enrollment
multiplier to artificially
inflate the student body populations of affected schools
with the intention of elevating
the most successful teams into
the next highest classification.

Callahan.
Richard married his wife of 57
years, Willetta M. Littrell on

perfected his trade of welding.
Richard worked on many buildings in the Greater Kansas City
area from 1961 to 2001. He was
a member of the International
Iron Workers Union, Local#10.
In 1964, he settled in Lenexa,
Kansas to raise his family.
Richard is survived by his
wife Julie, his sister Pearle Ann
Bishop of Panama City, FL, four
children: Ronald Callahan of
Garnett, Ks; Sandra Finnicum
and her husband Doug of
Olathe, Kansas; Debra Callahan
of Garnett, Kansas; and Linda
Lapp and her husband John of
Fredericksburg, VA. In addition, Richard has 10 grandchildren: Melissa Ochoa (Gilbert),

four grandchildren and one
great-grandchild.
Richard worked as an iron
worker/welder for 40 years in
the greater Kansas City area
and retired at age 65 to pursue
a second career raising cattle in
Garnett, Kansas. No one built
a fence comparable to him.
Richards fences, especially his
fence posts, will last for many,
many years to come!
Richard was also a square
dance caller and teacher for
many years. He called for the
Jet Sets and Crosstrailers Clubs
for many years. He taught
hundreds of people to square
dance over the years through
the Johnson County Parks &

Upon Richards final retirement, he moved to Mission, TX.
In November 2021, he and Julie
moved to Blue Springs, MO, to

We dont yet know how serious the Trump

violent crime.
But perhaps the most dangerous federal

what reason?
We dont know.

But I now believe Joe Biden is a dangerous
President because he cannot anticipate serious
situations, of which China is at the top of the list.
Under Biden, America is far weaker than it
was when he entered office. Therefore, we are all
in danger on a variety of fronts.
Pelosi sticking Bejing, the FBI battering
Trump, millions of foreign nationals sieging the
border, gas prices hurting workers. None of that
had to happen.
But it has.
And, with apologies to Jethro Tull, its not all
right with me.
The anti-Biden narrative is mostly

problems; he may not

Unless they go after the Clintons with the same
zeal that they are going after Trump, Im afraid
our Democracy is lost. Weve officially become
a banana republic. And now 87,000 new IRS
agents? Youre next.
I wanted to complment the photograper who
shot the picture on the front page of the paper
this week. Its pictures like that that really capture the essence of events like the fair. I thought
it was really good. Thank you.
What do you know. The CDC has finally changed
their Covid guidelines. Looks like science finally caught up with common sense.

Now its Third World tactics against Donald Trump
Absolute power corrupts absolutely, and
were watching it play out in real time. On
August 8, the Biden Justice Departments
unannounced raid of former President Donald
Trumps home crossed a line that has left
many Americans wondering whats happened
to our country. Using third-world tactics like
this against a former president is unacceptable in a vacuum.
Its even worse considering that this is
just part of a pattern of bureaucratic abuse
against Trump. By weaponizing the Justice
Department to punish and intimidate their
political opponents, the Biden administration and Democrats have shown just how far
theyre willing to go to maintain their failed
grip on power.
Remember the Russia Hoax, when tens
of millions of taxpayer dollars and endless
hours of breathless media coverage gave us
the Mueller Report? That years-long smear
campaign concluded there was no collusion
and no obstruction of justice on the part of
Trump. Instead of apologizing and moving
on, Democrats and bureaucrats doubled down
with a sham impeachment which saw Trump
acquitted by the Senate. Time and time again,
Washington elites have tried to take Trump
down. Why? Because he effectively spoke up
for the American people, and the D.C. swamp
didnt take kindly to it.
How is this the federal governments priority right now? I doubt that Americans

struggling with historically high inflation
and surging violent crime are reassured that
Democrats found time to authorize an unannounced and unprecedented raid on Trumps
home. Nearly a hundred pro-life pregnancy
centers and churches have been vandalized or
firebombed since the leak of the Dobbs decision hows the FBI investigation into that
wave of domestic terrorism proceeding?
We still have a raging crisis at our southern
border as beleaguered Border Patrol agents
try to stem a flood of deadly drugs pouring
into our country. The Biden administration
doesnt care about that theyre more focused
on passing a bill that will raise taxes, have no
impact on inflation, and hire an army of 87,000
new IRS agents.
Its worth pointing out that prominent
Democrats dont seem to get this same treatment. Hillary Clinton destroyed over 30,000
classified emails, covered it up, and got away
with barely a slap on the wrist. Hunter Biden
appears to have laundered money while sharing a bank account with Joe Biden. Hes
still painting away in his Malibu mansion
and appearing at White House events. Noted
anti-Semite Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-MI, promoted a call for donations to a group tied to Hamas
and the Taliban. Nothing ever came of it.
Look at the big picture. Last October
Bidens Department of Justice labeled parents concerned about their kids educations
as domestic terrorists. In May, the Biden
administration tried to set up a Ministry of
Truth to police what Americans read online.
Last week, Senate Democrats passed a bill
hiring a Rose Bowl Stadiums worth of new
IRS government agents to financially target
everyday citizens. And on Monday, the Biden
Justice Department unleashed the FBI on a
leading political opponent just 92 days ahead
of the massively important midterm elections.
Everyone needs to pay attention to whats
happening: Democrats are drunk on the power
of one-party rule and growing increasingly
aggressive in their attempts to punish those
who push back against the far-left.

Spending bill doesnt save The Biden Disaster
Every dog has his day, and apparently so
does every miserably inadequate president.
Joe Biden, who has been out-of-touch, tonedeaf and disturbingly incompetent from the
outset of his presidency, suddenly has the
Big Mojo, or at least the Moderate-Sized,
This Isnt Quite the Legislative Debacle We
Expected Mojo.
The climate and health care spending deal
forged by Senate Majority Leader Chuck
Schumer and longtime Democratic holdout
Joe Manchin has revived talk in the media
and among Democrats of Bidens transformative agenda — if not quite FDR- or LBJ-level,
substantial and to be reckoned with.
Theres no doubt that Biden has spent a lot
of money between the so-called $1.9 trillion
COVID relief package and now the $700 billion
in the latest bill.
Its also true that winning is better than losing; success is better than futility; and passing
something is better than nothing.
The Schumer-Manchin bill, though, is a
shadow of the original sprawling proposal
that constituted nearly the entire progressive
wish list, from free community college to
universal pre-K to expanded parental leave,
stuffed into one legislative casing.
The scaled-back version is a not particularly coherent combination of whatever Joe
Manchin and his fellow resistant Democrat,
Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona, were willing to
support.
Its claim to reduce inflation is a joke;
its deficit reduction is backloaded and has
already been vitiated by other unpaid-for
spending; its taxes will hit Americans earning less than $400,000-a-year, despite Bidens
NATIONAL COMMENTARY

promises; its electric car subsidies are frustrated by its own requirements that key components not come from China — requirements
that no car can currently meet.
The bill doesnt remove any of the doubts
about Biden, whose main contribution to the
process of cutting the deal was to stay out of
the way.
Otherwise, the president still hasnt successfully made the public case for anything.
Indeed, he has almost zero capacity for persuasion — something that the White House
clearly realizes and is reflected in his limited
schedule and interactions with the press.
Hes allowed the left to lead him around
by the nose on most things, mouthing its
lines about the Georgia voting law supposedly
being Jim Crow on steroids and slamming
the Supreme Court while on a trip overseas.
His agenda has been almost entirely removed from the concerns of ordinary
Americans. The title of the new spending bill
is a nod to inflation, but what it really offers
Americans groaning under double-digit price
increases in key goods is — just what they need
— more solar panels and wind turbines.
Of course, Bidens first big achievement,
the COVID bill, turned out to be most consequential for what it did to stoke an inflation
that has disrupted the lives of much of the
country and eroded its standard of living.
It is this failure, more than the border or
Afghanistan, that has sent Biden below 40%
approval in most polls. Its one thing to sag in
popularity before a midterm election — thats
normal. Its quite another to convince most
everyone in the country, including members
of your own party, that you are unsuited to
running for president again.
Only 18% of Americans in the latest Yahoo
News/YouGov poll say that Biden should run
for a second term. Just 29% of Biden voters
are ready for him to suit up and ride again in
2024, an astonishing repudiation from people
who presumably wish him well and were hoping for the best.
Well, at least Biden, the oldest man ever to
serve as president, set up his succession with
foresight and care, right? Naturally, only 30%
of Democrats and Democratic independents
want Vice President Kamala Harris to be the
nominee in 2024.
Perhaps it makes Bidens legislative
achievements all the more impressive that
hes been able to manage them while simultaneously cratering. If thats a distinction of
sorts, its not one any president should welcome.

Linda Huettenmueller, Sharon

held no discussion of the topic
after a series of public comments from a packed library
meeting room. The group of
18 speakers who addressed the
board was slightly tilted in
favor of retaining the book at
the facility.
Tegan Modica, adult services
coordinator at the library, clarified that the book was held
in the adult non-fiction section
and said parents concerned
about their chldrens reading
materials should exercise their
own judgment and oversight,
but that right didnt extend
to other children and other

Sheryl Urquhart told board
members censorship had been
rampant in America the past
several years and it was incumbent on people to avoid it, but
the content of Gender Queer
went too far. She said the book
should be age restricted.
I do think, rein it in,
Urquhart said. Were so far out

Garnett
First

noted the apparent inconsistency in library policy in that
its internet access computers
include software to restrict
access to pornography sites,
while Gender Queer is greatly accessible. He said if the
book is kept at the facility it,
too, should have an age restriction.
Pat Wittry of Greeley said
while she didnt think the book
was appropriate for children,
the book could be vital to some
young adults and that in the
end it was up to parents to
determine what their kids were
exposed to.
Before the unanimous

Huettenmueller made the only
comment on the issue to come
from the board.
My emotions were all over
the place during this whole
conversation, but Im here as a
board member, she said.
A recent report based on CDC
data shows a sharp increase
in the number of young people suffering from gender dysphoria and identifying as
transgender. The study found
people 13-25 accounted for a
disproportionately large share
of the transgender population.
While younger teens make up
7.6 percent of the total U.S. population, they make up roughly
18 percent of gender dysphoric individuals. Similarly, 18-24
year-olds are 11 percent of the
total population but 24 percent
of the population.
Older adults had a far lower
incident of gender dysphoria,
according to the CDC data.
Those 25-64 make up 62 percent of the population but only
47 percent of transgenders.

Backyard BBQ competition planned at Burlington
BURLINGTON Is your backyard barbecue good enough to

be held Saturday, Sept. 17, at
Kelley Park in Burlington.
Backyard cookers will compete in two meat categories,
chicken and pork ribs.
The grand champion will
receive $850 and the reserve
champion will receive $650.
Cash prizes will be paid
through seventh place in the
chicken category and pork
ribs category with $500 being
awarded to first place followed
by $400 (2nd), $300 (3rd), $225
(4th), $150 (5th), $100 (6th), and

Notice of budget hearing for Deer Creek Watershed
FROM PAGE 1
(Schools can only be moved up
one class, and 8-man football
programs will not be forced to
compete with 11-man squads.)
The proposal is threephased; the second and third
phases, however, are not activated unless the first one is
reached.
Championships Won: If a
school has earned 10 championships in any sport over a
5-year period, a multiplier of .3
is added
Location: If a smaller school
is located within a 5A or 6A
district, another .3 is added.
If located within a 3A or 4A
district, add .15. The purpose
is to dissuade private schools
from recruiting public school
athletes.
Socio-economic: If a private
school has fewer than 20%
of its student body receiving
free- or reduced-price lunches,
another .15 is added to its population total as its signifies a
more prosperous school with
greater resources to support
its athletic and scholastic programs.
For example, a 3A private
high school with a mid-level
enrollment of 250, with the
10 championships, located in
a 4A, 5A, or 6A district, and
fewer than 20% on reduced
or free lunches, would see its
population soar to 438, and
into 4A classification.
After the KSHSAA Board
of Directors overwhelmingly
approved the proposal, it was
sent to member schools for
review and vote. There was far
more support among the smaller schools, indicating the fairness issue is of more concern in
Classes 1A-4A.
1A: 74-43 For
2A: 43-21 For
3A: 46-18 For
4A: 30-6 For
5A: 19-17 Against
6A: 30-6 Against
The measure passed 242-111,
with a 68% majority, setting
the state for action by the State
Board of Education.
Rep. Tim Johnson of the 38th
District, a retired teacher and
coach, supports the proposal
from experience:
Three times as a coach and
or parent, I have watched my
top-notch 4A team be destroyed
in state playoffs by a private
school with depth and lineups
featuring an array of talent
from across the entire metro
area.
I cannot believe the private schools do not want to
win championships at higher
divisions and earn them with
coaching, hard work, and no
unfair advantages.
My Hall of Fame high
school coach Walt Shublom
who won 10 state 5A/6A state
basketball championships and
took three second-places finishes at Wyandotte HS, always
said, to be the best, you have
to play the best. Lets give
private schools an opportunity
to prove themselves.
Some observers see a double standard in the KSHSAA
position, noting its efforts to
address what it sees as competitive disadvantages suffered
by public schools in athletic
competitions when the organization demurred the last
two years on the question of
transgender athletes compet-
Boundaries or no boundaries
Sometimes to assure our life
is headed in the right direction we have to ask ourselves a
couple of questions, Question
number one is. What is the
single most important thing in
our life? Now dont get side
tracked by some current circumstance affecting you today.
What I am referring to is the
one thing that we value or
care about more than anything
else. It may be something you
dont want to admit has a grip
on your life. It can be found
by looking at our bank statement or credit card statement
or where we hang out or any
number of ways. It is what is
most difficult for us to give up.
Many times in our life it is the
hardest thing for us to control.
This leads us to question
number two. How is this
desire working out in your life
and how is this going to affect
you long term. I can tell you
what happens to me when I
get off track. My perspective
gets skewed, I get frustrated,
ultimately I can lose my joy.
You see a life lived contrary
to Gods desire for our life is
driven by our own preferences.
This leaves us at the mercy
of whatever circumstances
develop from this. As long as
our circumstances please us
we are fine, however, if they
change so can our mood or disposition. And here comes frustration around the corner to
DAVIDS..

Act in the U.S. House, criticized by many as a bill that will
boost instead of reduce inflation.
No Republicans in the House
voted for the bill, which passed
on party lines 220-207. Davids
did not immediately respond
to emails from the Review on
Sunday to comment.
The bill contains a number
of provisions to hike federal
revenues by raising income
taxes 15 percent on large corporation with more than a billion in income over a specified
three-year period, sets up negotiations between Medicare and
Medicaid for price bargaining
on pharmacy prescriptions,
expands green energy initiatives with extended tax credits
for wind and solar farms and
others and hires some 87,000
new Internal Revenue Service
employees with the mission to
develop federal revenues. The
bill marks Davids 76th vote
with President Biden to pursue agenda and policies which
have reduced his approval rating below 40 percent.
Davids opponent in the 3rd
District election coming up in
November, Amanda Adkins,
said the bills name was a misnomer.
Unfortunately, this bill
doesnt live up to its name or
bring financial relief to Kansas
WEEKLY DEVOTIONAL
ing against biological girls.
KSHSAA took a neutral position each year on the Fairness
in Womens Sports Act, sponsored by Wichita Republican
Sen. Renee Erickson. Each
year, the measure failed to
override Governor Laura
Kellys veto.
Executive Director Bill
Faflick says the legislation was
a solution in search of a problem:
Relative to transgender
participation, recent data does
not suggest an imbalance of
success and our membership
continues to follow a policy
adopted approximately ten
years ago. No member school
administrator nor board member has asked us to consider
modification of this policy.
Accordingly, the KSHSAA has
taken no further action on the
transgender issue as detailed in
the proposed legislation from
Sen Erickson as the evidence
of unfairness has not developed
for our membership.
On the issue of private vs
public school competition,
Faflick said input was received
statewide and this solution
addresses a long-standing problem:
The decision to send the
item under consideration
through the amendment process was based upon recent historical data demonstrating the
private school members win
a greater percentage of championships when compared to
the percentage of membership
comprised by private schools.
It has been repeated as a theme
needing attention for several
years.

Colony Christian Church – Beniah and his feats
In preparation for the Mens
backpacking trip to Wyoming
later this week, Pastor Chase
was inspired by Beniah and his
feats in 2 Sam 23:20. Beniah
was one of King Davids Mighty
Men who was promoted to captain of Davids body guard after
chasing a lion into a pit on a
snowy day and killing it. Lions
are ferocious and are a threat
to people and livestock. The
Bible describes our enemy, the
devil, as prowling like a roaring lion, looking for someone to
devour. As Christians, we need
to defeat the lions of temptation
and sin that threaten to destroy
our lives. Often this requires
us to engage in battle in the
deep places in our souls during
difficult times in our lives,
like Beniahs pit on a snowy
day. And dont stop short. The
threat must be totally defeated.
Dont walk away from a lion in
a pit assuming it will not find
a way out. It is quite possible
for it to return and attack you
again when you least expect it.
How do you defeat a lion when
Proverbs 30:30 says that the
lion, king of animals, wont
turn aside for anything? Put
your faith in Jesus, the Lion of
the tribe of Judah. The devil is
only like a lion, but Jesus is
the true lion who did not turn
aside from the cross, but took
on sin and death and rose again
in victory!

greet us. We then have to work
to change our circumstances
which can even create more
problems for us. Think of all
the people you come in contact with daily who are fighting
some type of battle. Sounds
like a recipe for problems. So
there must be a solution to this
dilemma right?
Jesus said in John 14:15, If
you love me you will keep my
commandments. If God is not
in control of our life then someone else or something else must
be. If we live our life working
to keep Gods commands we
have direction, boundaries
lets say. If we dont there are
no boundaries. Consider this,
if there were no out of bounds
in basketball we could have no
game. Safe to assume the same
can be said about our life.

families and businesses who
are suffering, Adkins said
in a statement. The Inflation
Reduction Act does absolutely
nothing to reduce inflation.
Adkins said the most disappointing part of the bill are the
healthcare provisions that fail
to address the urgent needs created by skyrocketing prescription drug prices at a time when
health insurance inflation has
already increased by 20.6%.
Adkins said she supports
allowing Medicare to negotiate
drug prices, but she said the
negotiating power given to the
Secretary of Health and Human
Services by the legislation does
not begin until 2026 and is limited to just 10 drugs. By 2029, it
will extend to 20 drugs.
We cant wait until the end of
the decade to tackle the cost
of prescription drugs, said
Adkins.
Anderson and Franklin
counties were moved from the
2nd District into Davids 3rd
District earlier this year in
a map drawn by Republican
majorities in the Kansas
Legislature, while it moved
the northern half of Wyandotte
County into the 1st District.
The map has been heavily
criticized as gerrymandering
by Democrats and was struck
down by a Wyandotte County
Judge as unconstitutional in
April before that ruling was
overturned by the Kansas
Supreme Court in May.
